Description
Purge Gas Retaining Tape with an Adhesive-Free Center
Aquasol EZ Zone Tape is an aluminum purge-gas retaining tape for TIG pipe welding. Two pressure-sensitive adhesive edge strips secure the tape on either side of the pipe root gap, while the center zone remains adhesive-free directly above the weld area.
That construction is useful when the welding procedure calls for purge-gas containment without placing adhesive over the root-side weld zone. It is a quote-only option for stainless steel, aluminum and other suitable pipe-fit-up work across the USA and Canada.
Why Choose EZ Zone Tape?
- Adhesive-free center: the middle zone bridges the root gap while adhesive remains on the outer edges.
- Placement aid: the center zone helps the installer align the tape over the gap before securing both sides.
- Conformable foil: malleable aluminum follows many uneven or complex pipe surfaces.
- Heat ratings: adhesive is rated to 500°F (260°C); aluminum foil is rated to 1100°F (593°C).
- Specified composition: halogen- and fluorocarbon-free.
Standard EZ Zone Tape Sizes
| Item No. | Overall Width | Adhesive-Free Center | Roll Length |
|---|---|---|---|
| EZ-ZT 2.5 | 2.5 in. / 64 mm | 1 in. / 25 mm | 75 ft. / 23 m |
| EZ-ZT 4.0 | 4 in. / 102 mm | 2 in. / 51 mm | 75 ft. / 23 m |
Simple TIG Purging Use Guide
- Clean and dry the intended weld-area surface according to the approved welding procedure.
- Center the adhesive-free zone over the root gap, then press the adhesive edges onto the adjoining pipe surfaces.
- Use the approved gas-inlet and venting method. Introduce the required inert gas and confirm the target oxygen level with a suitable purge monitor before welding.
- Weld and complete inspection in accordance with the project procedure. Remove or dispose of the tape as required.
EZ Zone Tape or EZ Tape?
- Choose EZ Zone Tape when an adhesive-free center is needed directly over the root gap.
- Choose EZ Tape when a fully adhesive-coated aluminum foil is the better fit for broad-contact sealing or general-purpose work.
Application Temperature Notes
The minimum stated application temperature is 10°F (-12.5°C). Plan tape placement before high-temperature work: at the 500°F (260°C) adhesive limit, it may not bond if applied after preheating; if installed before preheating, the adhesive can cure to metal and be more difficult to remove. Confirm suitability against the welding procedure and test on a representative surface where removal matters.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the adhesive-free center work?
The outer aluminum edge strips adhere on both sides of the root gap. The center zone is positioned over the gap, keeping adhesive away from the immediate weld area.
What EZ Zone Tape sizes are available?
EZ-ZT 2.5 is 2.5 in. (64 mm) wide with a 1 in. (25 mm) adhesive-free center. EZ-ZT 4.0 is 4 in. (102 mm) wide with a 2 in. (51 mm) adhesive-free center. Both rolls are 75 ft. (23 m) long.
What temperatures apply to EZ Zone Tape?
The stated minimum application temperature is 10°F (-12.5°C). The adhesive is rated to 500°F (260°C), and the aluminum foil portion is rated to 1100°F (593°C).
When should I choose EZ Zone Tape over EZ Tape?
Choose EZ Zone Tape where the weld procedure benefits from an adhesive-free area over the root gap. Choose EZ Tape when fully coated aluminum foil and broad adhesive contact are preferred.
